Jack the Giant Slayer – A mini review/rant

I had high hopes for this film, the acting talent was close on the best of British, big budgets, classic story line that everyone knows. But, having just watched half of it I’m cringing.

The film seemed to be going well, so much potential, and then we have Ewan McGregor throwing in a Star Wars line (“I have a bad feeling about this”) and then there’s his Armour, it looked like he was wearing some kind of S & M suit, no leather, just studded rubber with a little tin, I’m judging the armour on LoTR standards btw 🙂 which were top notch of course.

The biggest disappointment for me were the giants, all cgi, and to me cgi is just not strong enough to carry off such a big character race (pun intended), the animation on them is excellent, don’t get me wrong, but they just didn’t seem to fit into the world physicaly, they are still cartoony, with detail, a bit like Gollum, but since there was only one of him it worked, and there are a shit load of giants in this. I think if they’d at least made the effort to have some live actors (with the help of some amazing makeup, again, look at LoTR for reference) playing at least part of the lead giants it would have added a little realism to the film.

Gripe over…fun film but the realism let me down….and that one stupid Star Wars line, shame on you Ewan -__-
